The Bicycle Parking Project

New iPhone app available for download! Free, no ads. The app is a collection of bike racks and other bicycle parking spots from all around displayed on a map so they are easy to find. So far there are only 45 spots on the west coast (US), but I will be adding more as I go and anyone can snap a picture and add spots to the map.

Night Ride

As I look out on the bay the reflections stretch for miles across the water and the lights on the other side shimmer like the gentle waves go on forever.

Tonight I rode up to Peninsula down to the bay then around Broadway. Now that Peninsula is accessible it is a perfect loop from my apartment. I needed some exercise to help clear my mind before bed. A nice five mile loop with a few areas for maximum acceleration to get my heart rate up and my lungs working did the job.

The new commuter

The bike is great! I've been riding it for three weeks now. I reach max gear and higher speeds much faster than my old bike. My legs stretch out further, which feels great. I am exercising different muscles and stretching my legs more than before.

It took a few days to adjust. After the first ride around the park and down by the bay my crotch and my legs were soar for a few days... Then my body adjusted and as I got used to it the benefits were clear.

Reflect on Today's Events

Reflecting on today's events and my past experience... Two years ago about this time, July 2008, I rode from Burlingame, CA to Springfield, OR. Approximately 600 miles; three weeks on the road solo. Since and three months prior I have been riding my bicycle to work every day and everywhere else. Joy rides, grocery store, downtown, post office... Then today excitement rushed through my body as I walked downtown Burlingame and saw the races in action.
