Yuba Mundo - The Heavy Duty Cargo Bike

I recently received the new Yuba Mundo V3.3. Yuba made some minor changes to their frame. They have taken out 2 extra seat stay supports. The frame modification opened up new avenues for electric pedal assist. Previous version of the Yuba Mundo limited you to front or rear hub conversion kits. Now, you can actually configure a mid-motor set-up. I prefer the mid-drive due to the fact it uses your bicycle's drivetrain and it is definitely more efficient that way. I believe that the gentleman behind Stoke Monkey has proven that already. Although there is no bolt-on kit readily available for a mid-drive conversion in the market, it will not take long before Yuba or somebody else offers it. That might be me, but I am not sure yet as my designs are all still in my Rhino 3D program and has not reached the machine shop yet.

Going back to the Mundo, I love how this bike handles. It might be slightly heavier than the other purpose built cargo bikes in the market but this bike really feels solid. You do not feel any flex at all, most especially when hauling 3 kids in the back. My overall impression is great, the bike doesn't feel lazy or wallows nervously when loaded with probably 220lbs of precious cargo.

If you intend to carry heavier loads beyond 200lbs, this is the cargo bike for you. As the bike is designed to carry up to 440lbs. I have taken my wife and 2 kids in the back and it still felt stable. Heavy to pedal but it is a work out. After that, I told my wife to take it easy on the bagels in morning, just kidding. I do not want to risk my riding privileges, LOL! Then again, if you are looking for a bike that you would just ride around town with, do some occasional grocery runs or maybe Sunday paseo rides, this is bike will still be perfect.

Pedaling along with the Yuba is very comfy. The geometry is spot on. You are not too upright nor bending forward too much like riding on a cross country mountain bike. It just feels just right. The bike came with an adjustable quill stem, so you can dial in at what handle bar height and stem rise angle you wish. I really believe that this bike will fit riders from 5' to 6'5". My wife, she is 5'3, she absolutely fits perfectly as my 6'0 brother does too.

If you get that chance to see one at your local bicycle store, go for a test ride. It might change how you look at bikes and the purpose they are built for. It changed mine for the better. See you in the trails.
