Finally, we have an Xtracycle.
I have waited for a long time to acutally have and install an xtracycle long tail conversion kit on my Electra Townie. I have spent countless hours researching and looking for photos of the xtracycle conversions in the internet. Finally, I got one. As soon as the FedEx guy rang my doorbell, I felt like a little kid again, excited and happy.
I opened the box, went through all the parts and accessories. Read the installation manual twice before starting my build. The funny thing is, I really did not have to read the manual because I have practically memorized it from just always browsing the digital version online. That is how bad I wanted the long tail kit. I waited for more than a year before pulling the trigger. I patiently waited for the best deal. I thought it will never come. I was greatly rewarded by my patience.
It took me a couple of hours to complete the build. I did it nice and easy. Made sure everything was neatly done. Although I stripped the tongue bolt because I accidentally overtightened it. Also, I made some modifications to the bike stand plate that was welded underneath the chainstays. I cut out the eyelet that holds the bolt for the rear fender. I wanted the tongue to be nice and flat on the plate to make sure the long tail kit does not flex around and that it is aligned properly.
I rode the elctracycle the next morning. Hauled my 3 kids to school. They absolutely loved it. That to me, seeing them having a blast is worth more than anything. I have never stopped riding the bike since I installed the conversion kit. It was really a great choice for having to invest in one. I get to ride my bike more and get a good quick heart rate boost. I love it.

new longtail
I could cut and paste your experience and call it my own with the exception of the three kids . I rode my two boys to school and they too loved it! Best investment I've ever made for my bike!
YAY!
Welcome to the longtail family, UC! Glad to hear the innaagural ride was a success and rich with experience. :) Ride on! rick@xtracycle
