Cycle 4 Sight 50 Mile Ride

I am preparing for my first official 1/2 century ride. I've ridden over 50 miles in one day before, so the distance is not a problem. What has me a bit worried is the 1,700 feet elevation gain.

I put in a nice 33 mile ride this morning with 600 feet or so in elevation gain and everything went fine. I could have went further, but didn't want to overdue it. I'll be training more in the weeks to come before the big ride on April 20th. I am also trying to gauge my performance. This morning I was riding for about two and a half hours and made about 30 miles. If I can do the 1/2 century in 4 hours I will be satisfied. The ride starts at 8 am, so that gives me till noon (lunch time). That is an average speed of about 13 mph which should be pretty easy to maintain as long as I pace myself going up hill. The great thing about going up hill is that you get to go downhill on the other side!

The last two years I rode the 25 mile route. So, I am familiar with half the ride. This year I'll be riding the new road bike I picked up last July. Excited to see how this turns out!

Here is the route for the upcoming ride in Napa, CA:
