New Mobile Theme in the Works

March 10, 2011 - 4:05pm -- GBT

In an effort to bring it all together I am working on a new mobile theme to make the website as accessible as possible. This is important with the recent release of the new android app and will be increasingly important once I wrap my head around iphone app development (currently climbing the learning curve).

First thing is first. Install a module to detect mobile devices and work on a new custom theme to make it as easy as possible to register for a new account via mobile phone.

Finally, we have an Xtracycle.

I have waited for a long time to acutally have and install an xtracycle long tail conversion kit on my Electra Townie. I have spent countless hours researching and looking for photos of the xtracycle conversions in the internet. Finally, I got one. As soon as the FedEx guy rang my doorbell, I felt like a little kid again, excited and happy.

Android App - Log Miles

December 6, 2010 - 10:32pm -- GBT

Working on a new app to interface with user accounts. Will start with some basic functionality like logging miles from the phone. The app will default to the present date (with option to change that date) and there will be a small text entry box for the number of miles you rode that day. Click the button and your profile / quick miles will be updated.

Night Ride

November 14, 2010 - 9:43pm -- GBT

As I look out on the bay the reflections stretch for miles across the water and the lights on the other side shimmer like the gentle waves go on forever.

Tonight I rode up to Peninsula down to the bay then around Broadway. Now that Peninsula is accessible it is a perfect loop from my apartment. I needed some exercise to help clear my mind before bed. A nice five mile loop with a few areas for maximum acceleration to get my heart rate up and my lungs working did the job.

The new commuter

October 25, 2010 - 7:59pm -- GBT

The bike is great! I've been riding it for three weeks now. I reach max gear and higher speeds much faster than my old bike. My legs stretch out further, which feels great. I am exercising different muscles and stretching my legs more than before.

It took a few days to adjust. After the first ride around the park and down by the bay my crotch and my legs were soar for a few days... Then my body adjusted and as I got used to it the benefits were clear.

One week car rental

October 5, 2010 - 6:44pm -- GBT

I drove a rental car for a week. Friday 9/24 - Friday 10/1. My first rental car... We (Dawn and I) got it in the first place to get out of town. We went to the hot springs for the weekend. Ukiah's organic brewery ;-). After the weekend I took advantage of the car and let my body rest as much as possible.

Mapping System Updates

August 12, 2010 - 5:39pm -- GBT

Moving to a hybrid of google maps and open layers... New enhancements include full screen mode, fancier control panel and more map choices to experiment with.

Also planning to integrate gps tracks and the like to adventure maps, so anyone who has one can add it to their own adventure map along with the spots that you can add now.

More updates soon!

First flat in two years

August 12, 2010 - 5:15pm -- GBT

Today I had my first flat tire in over two years. Riding home from work, just as I crossed the busiest intersection en route I felt an extra hard thunk from the back tire. Sure enough the air in my back tire was gone. First reaction, walk home another mile or so... on second thought Summit Bicycles was closer. So I walked my bike over there and they fixed it for me. Excellent service as always. I had enough time to walk around the show room and check out some road bikes, then it was done. Less than twenty bucks and zero hassle for me.

Reflect on Today's Events

June 27, 2010 - 3:25pm -- GBT

Reflecting on today's events and my past experience... Two years ago about this time, July 2008, I rode from Burlingame, CA to Springfield, OR. Approximately 600 miles; three weeks on the road solo. Since and three months prior I have been riding my bicycle to work every day and everywhere else. Joy rides, grocery store, downtown, post office... Then today excitement rushed through my body as I walked downtown Burlingame and saw the races in action.
